Lymington is a beautiful Georgian market town situated on the southern edge of the New Forest, adjoining the western end of the Solent.
The town has the most hours of sunshine and best temperatures of anywhere in the UK partly due to the area being sheltered by the Isle of Wight.
The coastal town is world renowned as a sailing centre with two large marinas and sailing clubs, Berthon and Lymington Yacht Haven and RLYC and Lymington Town Yacht Club, near to which is an open air seawater bath that was built in 1833. It is the oldest lido in the UK and at 110m by 50m it is also one of the largest.
Lymington town centre has a number of attractive designer boutiques, coffee shops, and well-known brands such as Marks & Spencer’s and Waitrose. At the top of the High Street is the parish church of St Thomas and at the bottom, the eastern end, a cobbled street that leads to the Old Town Quay, still used as a base by commercial fishing boats. There is also a market held every Saturday, believed to date back to the 13th century.
A local rail link runs to the main line station at Brockenhurst connecting to London Waterloo (90 minutes). Junction 1 of the M27 motorway is approximately 12 miles to the north.
Lymington is surrounded by outstanding natural beauty; to the north are about 145 square miles of ancient woodlands and heathlands of the New Forest National Park and to the south, the Solent and the Isle of Wight. Within Lymington town the area south of the High Street is very popular as it provides easy access to the town and to the marinas. Outside of the town areas such as Milford on Sea, Barton on Sea and Keyhaven are popular along the coast and inland the main villages of Sway, Burley, Brockenhurst, Boldre, East Boldre, Beaulieu, Lyndhurst and Minstead to name but a few are all within the New Forest and accessible to the South’s major centres and road and rail access to London.
Lymington also has some very good schools servicing all ages and covering state and independent and these include:
