Jonathan Young FRICS FAAV, as Chairman of the Hants, Wilts & Dorset Agricultural Valuers Association, held the Chairman’s Day at Wiltshire Grain near Shrewton, Salisbury on Tuesday 15th September 2015. He organised a fascinating day looking at the “opportunities for our arable farmers”. This included a guided tour of the 100,000 tonne grain storage facilities, illuminating talks from Cecilia Pryce (Head of Research at Openfield Agriculture) and Professor Tim Wheeler (Deputy Chief Scientific Adviser at the UK Department for International Development and Professor of Crop Science at The University of Reading’s Walker Institute for Climate System Research), an address from the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers’ Junior Vice-President, James Dick, and rounded off by an informative and amusing update from the indomitable Jeremy Moody, who is Secretary and Advisor to the CAAV.
After lunch at The Ginger Piggery, the AGM was swiftly held before a tour of Boyton Farm and an introduction to Tamworth pigs by Caroline Wheatley-Hubbard.
Jonathan Young said “I am delighted that so many members and guests could attend my Chairman’s Day. In today’s busy world, it is important to see how others approach their business and to take time to meet and talk to other advisers. It is now my great pleasure to hand over the Chairman’s chain of office to my elected successor, Simon Barker.”
