Once again land agents and chartered surveyors Woolley & Wallis sponsored the Hampshire Down Sheep Class on Wednesday June 1 at this year’s Royal Bath & West Show. This year the quality of sheep entered in this class was better than ever with a number of new exhibitors.
The Breed Champion Cup was awarded to Mr and Mrs Halcrow of Woodford near Kettering, Northamptonshire for a ram lamb born after 1 December 2015.
The Reserve Champion Cup went to Mrs Eirlys Jones of Haverfordwest for a ewe lamb born after 1 December 2015.
The trophies were presented by Ben Marshall of Woolley & Wallis’ Shaftesbury office.
Breed judge, Mr Jim Birkwood of Louth said that in addition to looking for all the breed characteristics he looked for a sheep with sparkle and he was not disappointed with this years entries. He looked for animals that had a good head and mouth but also that had style and would meet the needs of the commercial market.
Woolley & Wallis have had a longstanding relationship with the Hampshire Down breed; Major Richard Woolley was instrumental in the firm becoming the official auctioneers for the Hampshire Down Breed Association at the all-important Wilton Sheep Fair.
