Five professional firms entered the tournament with teams from Trethowans, Smith & Williamson, Parker Bullen, Barclay Phillips and Woolley & Wallis.
In an attempt to gain some advantage, all guests were welcomed with some Pimms and after Matthew Wilcox gave a quick run through of the rules, the tournament began.
The tournament was hotly contested with a competitive edge between the teams, well mediated by the umpires; Andrew Donald and Richard Sharland, who even co-ordinated outfits! Two matches were played concurrently allowing one team time to support/discuss tactics/recover/prop up the bar.
After the five rounds of games which included; some dubious bowling by Simon Male, a clash of heads between Rob Horton and Shaun O’Keefe, rugby tackles, numerous pulled muscles and an almost empty bar, the teams awaited the announcement of the winners.
Andy Cochran broke the news that Smith & Williamson were to be crowned Champions and they collected their prizes. All were then well rewarded with a fantastic BBQ prepared by the Cricket Club which gave everyone another opportunity to socialise between themselves.
The event was a great success with numerous positive feedback received including from Claire Gates at Trethowans who commented: “The excellent organisation, the company from all the teams and the sense of ‘healthy competition’ made for a hugely entertaining event.”
Matthew Wilcox who organised the event noted: “The event was a big success and it was great to get a range of local professional firms together for some friendly competition. All seemed to enjoy themselves and I have already received a number of emails asking that they be invited to the tournament next year!”
