Park House, Donyatt, Illminster

Anyone for Tennis?

There is nothing quite like a game of grass court tennis to conjure up the image of a quintessential English summer.  With Wimbledon underway home owners fortunate enough to possess a grass court are watering, mowing and painting the lines and erecting the net in preparation to play.  If you want to create your own court the following facts will be of use.  The court is 78' long and 39' on a side.  Its width is 27' for singles matches and 36' for doubles matches and the service line is 21' from the net.  It is recommended that a total of 60'wide and 120' long will provide the additional clear space around the court in order for players to reach over run balls.  It is advisable to orientate the court North/South to avoid background glare at dawn and dusk.  Whilst all weather courts are easier to maintain, grass courts are faster giving the server the advantage and assist a serve and volley game.  If you are tempted by the idea of owning a property with a grass tennis court then Woolley & Wallis are lucky enough to have two properties.  The first is Park House in Donyatt, near Ilminster where there is a beautifully maintained grass tennis court set in stunning formal gardens with delightful views complimenting the four bedroom Victorian house.  Many people who have played here, whether beginners or county players, attest to its special delight. The court also doubles up as a croquet lawn and is a very special play area for the very young. It can provide a unique attraction that is of benefit to the whole family.  For those enthusiasts looking for a grass tennis court to re-instate we have Malwood Walk House at Minstead, Nr Lyndhurst; a Grade II 'Arts and Crafts' country house with potential to be one of the finest New Forest homes.  For more information on Park House please contact the Woolley & Wallis Shaftesbury Office on 01747 852242 and for Malwood Walk House please contact the Woolley & Wallis Lymington Office on 01590 689878.
