St Thomas’s church is located in the hamlet of East Orchard between the towns of Sturminster Newton and Shaftesbury in the Blackmore Vale.
Built of stone and rubble walls with a gabled, tiled roof and end bell-cote. Local Greensand stone forms the plinths and copings on the west. The porch has an outer, 2-centred arch resting on half clumps. The Church features lancet style windows throughout, with 5 graduated lancets to the West and 3 graduated lancets to the East. Currently laid out with a nave, chancel and south porch decorated with corner pilaster type buttresses and in situ is the late C12 or early C13 font with circular bowl ( NB In the event of a sale, the font and other fixtures and fittings will be the subject of directions made by the Bishop in due course).
This building is listed under the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990 as amended for its special architectural or historic interest.

CONTENTS
The contents shall be dealt with as the Bishop shall direct and in accordance with any listed building consent.

The ground in the churchyard is uneven in places.
